AREA 01
The base for Arenal. Baldi, Paradise and EcoTermales are a short ride from town, and most tours pick up here.
AREA 02
West of town toward the volcano: Tabacón's spring-fed river and the bigger hot springs resorts.
AREA 03
Lava-field trails and forest; pair a morning hike with a natural hot river soak.
AREA 04
An active volcano near Liberia with bubbling mud pots, waterfalls and thermal pools along the Río Negro.
AREA 05
Coco, Tamarindo and Flamingo hotels are a day trip from Rincón; several tours pick up there.
AREA 06
No hot springs, but it's the usual next stop after Arenal for cloud forest and hanging bridges.
Hot springs are open year-round, and a warm soak is arguably best in the rain. December to April is drier with clearer volcano views; September and October are the wettest months in Arenal and Guanacaste. Rincón de la Vieja trails can close after heavy rain or volcanic activity, so keep a pool-only day as a backup.
Tabacón and the smaller springs cap daily guests, and December to April evenings sell out first. Tabacón and EcoTermales are final sale, so pick your date before you book; the other six allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
